  • Welcome to my Alzheimers WAI-cycle Adventures Expedition site.

This is where I will share my three Alzheimer’s challenges:

    • to make a cycle journey from Switzerland to Japan via Finland,
    • to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and as a potential candidate myself, discover what I can do to avoid it or at least push it away for as long as possible,
    • to raise €10,000 for Alzheimer’s International.

  • WAI

WAI – is simply my way of checking in on my own mental condition! This is also how I will tell you about me and my experience.

W, A, and I, stand for the seemingly simple questions that are also a test of memory and brain function:

    Who am I ?
Where am I? Where have I been, Where am I going?
    When am I …..?
    What am I doing?
    Why am I doing this?

Here, you can find links to my cycle journey: pebbls tracker, youtube videos and photos.

I began the first stage of my journey at the end of April 2024. My first goal was to cycle from Switzerland to the house in Bayern, Germany where Dr Alzheimer was born. I completed 6 cycle Stages in 2024 which took me over 4,000km to sylt Island at the border of North Germany with Denmark. Then through several Denmark islands, Sweden, Norway, Sweden again and Finland.

For my first stage in 2025 (stage 7) I collected my bike in Finland and then cycled extensively in the Baltics: from Estonia and into Latvia and Lithuania. Later stages in 2025 have taken me through Poland into Slovakia and Hungary. Stage 11 is my final Stage for 2025 into Romania and over the Carpathian mountains.

I will be heading towards Turkey in 2026. From there I want to find an open route to Japan.

  • Adventures Against Dementia

I want to use my journey and this site to raise more awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease, the most common form of dementia. There were 55 million sufferers of dementia (according to WHO data) world-wide in 2020. The actual number will be many more. There is no cure and the numbers of sufferers increases every year.

I am motivated to take on these challenges in honour of my mother Maureen, who lived 15 years with Alzheimer’s disease; sadly, we already lost her ‘self’ in many ways before she died from the disease at the end of 2019.

I recognise that I am also a potential candidate!

This is where you can find out about Alzheimers and how to stand the best chance of avoiding it. There will be some data, a simple guide as well as interviews and links to experts.
